Twitter Tips For Business - 1. Tidy Up Your Profile

If you are planning to use Twitter to promote your business - and attract new customers - it makes sense to tidy up your profile.

This should be designed to present your business in the best light - and make it easy for potential customers to contact you.

Go to your settings page and click 'Profile'. Review your main photo and header photo - could they be improved? Or simply changed to freshen up your page?

Also check that you've entered you business name, location, link to your website and short bio in the relevant sections.

Finally save and click the 'Me' button to return to your Twitter page. Review - and try to think like a potential customer - is this getting the right message across? If you can - get a couple of friends or (even better) business associates to review and give you some feedback. Also check for typos and make sure that the website link works correctly.

Repeat all this on a regular basis - especially if you business is growing and evolving.

Example:

I've been helping St Ives September Festival with their Social Media Marketing - including both Facebook and Twittter - plus a few other online channels.

This has involved developing a marketing plan and then implementing it online.

One aspect of this has been a re-branding exercise - with some new images and logos from our excellent graphic designer.

Once this was done my role was to update our Twitter profile (also Facebook) to reflect all this.

I had to do a bit of work on the pictures to fit Twitter requirements - plus a little re-writing of the profile text. Once done it was a simple matter to upload these. The pages now reflect the new fresh "image" of the festival - helping us to attract more followers and - ultimately - to sell more tickets for our events.
